My Remixes

My First Remix

As a young kid, I used to watch after-school reruns of the TV show “Sanford and Son” and always loved the opening and closing credits because it was the funkiest music I had ever heard. Many years later as I started to explore producing and mixing music, this Quincy Jones tune was the first one I took on.

I spent alot of time working on it as I learned the tools and techniques and once finished, I took it to a club in Atlanta that used to broadcast live on the radio… and the DJ actually played it! It was really cool watching the dance floor fill up as people recognized the song and started to groove to it.

Since then, I’ve remixed numerous songs just for my own pleasure. I like taking songs that move me and then challenging myself to amp them up a little. For example, I was into early Coldplay and remixed several of their songs.

A Remix Challenge

While having dinner with a friend one night, I told her that I could probably take any song, remix it, and make it hip and danceable. She challenged me with the worst song she ever knew or could remember… a song her parents used to play on the record player while she was growing up.

For context, here is the original song she chose.
“Greenfields” by The Brothers Four:

Can I prove her wrong? Hmm… let’s see.

And just to make a point, I remixed the same song twice! Here is my “Greenfields” Z4rk4 House Remix:

Other Mixes

Here is my “Summertime” Z4rk4 Remix featuring (I think) Maynard Fergusen on a soulful live trumpet solo I found on an old Dinah Washington album:
