My Very First Remix

As a kid, I used to watch after-school reruns of the TV show “Sanford and Son” and always loved the opening and closing credits because it was the funkiest music I had ever heard. Many years later when I started to explore producing and mixing music, this tune was the first one I took on.

I spent alot of time remixing it as I learned the tools and techniques and once finished, I took it to a club in Atlanta that used to broadcast live on the radio… and the DJ actually played it! It was really cool watching the dance floor fill up as people started to recognize the song and groove to it.

Since then, I’ve remixed numerous songs just for my own pleasure. I liked taking songs that moved me and challenging myself to amp them up a little. For example, I was really into early Coldplay and remixed several of their songs.

A Remix Challenge

While having dinner with a friend one night, I told her that I could probably take any song, remix it, and make it hip and danceable. She challenged me with the worst song she ever knew or could remember… a song her parents used to play on the record player while she was growing up.
