Weeds Along My Path

I walk up and down the road leading to my house most mornings (two miles total) but have only recently learned to be aware and appreciate the simple beauty of my surroundings. I now hear the birds singing, the frogs croaking, and the crickets chirping. I now hear water gurgling through the streams and the leaves rustling through the trees when the wind blows. I stop to watch the deer in the clearing and take time to admire the geese that return every year to nest in a nearby pond. I don’t just hear and see anymore… I actually listen and observe, and it’s made all difference in helping me find peace and joy in my life.

My morning walk also includes watching weeds grow along the road. Every week, something new pops up and ultimately blooms. So, I grab a few and bring them home to create a bouquet.

From a philosophical point of view, we all experience “weeds” along our journey. Rather than fighting them or trying to overcome or eliminate them, we should learn to embrace them, collect them, and find beauty in their existence. RjZ
